Description

The rapid advance of AI technologies, e.g., Generative AI and Foundation Models, opens the doors to the exploration and proposal of novel AI solutions in key scenarios of society. These novel solutions can enhance not only the performance but also other critical aspects of the current AI technology such as the explainability, bias, and privacy, following the recent European AI Act guidelines. Cátedra ENIA UAM-VERIDAS en IA Responsable focuses on the following main objectives: i) proposal of novel methods to detect and mitigate the extraction/use of sensitive information in AI models, ii) proposal of novel methods to reduce the bias in AI models, iii) proposal of novel methods to improve the explainability of the AI models, and iv) proposal of novel methods to increase the robustness and security performance of AI systems against attacks such as DeepFakes, poisoning and backdoor attacks, etc.

July, 2025: Ruben Tolosana gives a Keynote in the topic of “Synthetic Data and Foundation Models: Challenges and Opportunities in Security Applications” at 4th International Conference on Computing, IoT and Data Analytics (ICCIDA 2025).
July, 2025: Our proposal, X-TFCLIP, has won the Aerial-Ground Person Re-identification Challenge (AG-VPReID 2025) organized within IEEE International Joint Conference on Biometrics, IJCB 2025. All the details of the AG-VPReID 2025 challenge are publicly available in the corresponding paper.
June, 2025: Our paper “Are Vision-Language Models Ready for Dietary Assessment? Exploring the Next Frontier in AI-Powered Food Image Recognition” received the “Best Paper Award” at the 2nd MetaFood Workshop organized within IEEE/CVF Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference, CVPR 2025.
May, 2025: Ruben Tolosana received the “Best Young Researchers Award (2024)” from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM). This award recognises and makes visible the work of young researchers at the UAM for their contribution to scientific development, as well as their national and international visibility as a leading research center.
May, 2025: Julian Fierrez participates in the “Business-Technology Roundtable” at the Intersectoral Forum for the Regulation of Digital Real Identity, organized by Fundación Hermes.
May, 2025: Aythami Morales gives a talk in the topic of “Artificial Intelligence and Bias” at Pint of Science ES (Citynizer Plaza). A brilliant initiative to bring science to society through talks in a fun and relaxed atmosphere in bars throughout Spain.

April, 2025: Aythami Morales co-organizes the “Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Research (FAIR)”, celebrated from April 28th to April 30th 2025 at La Cristalera (Madrid). The aim of the Forum is to provide a clear overview of the key milestones, seminal works, and fundamental mechanisms that have shaped this field.

This event focuses on school communities and the general public. The goal is to stimulate interest and curiosity in science, technology, and innovation through observation, experimentation, and analysis.

January, 2025: Ruben Tolosana received the “Juan Lopez de Peñalver Award (2024)” from the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering (RAING). This award recognizes researchers/engineers under 40 years who have carried out outstanding development and innovation work in the field of engineering.
